We love San Pedro! And there are so many great places to eat.
This trip we visited in September and that is the off season in San Pedro. Many of the restaurants take some time off during this time of year. So on our first day we walked down the beach to Amber Beach Bar and Grill which is on the beach in front of Carribbean Villas. They have lobster quesadillas on the menu during lobster season (Lobster season is from June 15 to February 13) and they are delicious.
There are so many great places to eat for dinner. This was a short trip and we only had three dinners but I will list some of our favorites. The first night we ate at Pineapple’s (which is the restaurant at Ramon’s) . They are also on the water. We love to eat on the water where the breeze and the view are amazing. Ramon’s has a great menu but my favorite is the pineapple boat. They cut a pineapple in half and fill it with rice and pineapple and shrimp and then for dessert I love the grilled pineapple with ice cream. Simple but delicious!
We also had dinner at the Hidden Treasure on this trip. It is on the south end of town and off in a neighborhood. It feels like you are a little lost because you turn off the main road and then take another turn to the left after a few blocks past houses. It is worth finding. It is a beautiful restaurant with wood floors and curtains and it feels elegant. The menu is excellent and on this trip we had the best meal that we have ever had there. I had the special which was snapper and shrimp and Chip had the almond crusted grouper. They were both so good. I was talking to a girl who has a home on the island later and she said that the almond crusted grouper was her absolute favorite – I said “we just had that and I have to agree!” The potatoes and vegetables are always great too! And they have great desserts!
The last night on this trip we ate at a new place for us at Banyan Bay Resort. I think the name had recently been changed to Pier 366 Seafood House. Again, great atmosphere because it is right on the water. It is actually in a gazebo like building but they open the windows and doors and the breeze is amazing. Chip had the seafood platter and I had the steak and both were excellent. Their sides were great also.
We have lots of other favorites that we did not make it to on this trip but I will mention a few.
You should really try Elvi’s Kitchen in the middle of downtown San Pedro. They have a sand floor and the restaurant has so much character. They have great seafood dishes and on Friday nights during the busy season they have the Grand Maya Buffet. I love the grilled fish and rice.
We also love Rain Restaurant and Rooftop Terrace. It is north of the island over the bridge about a mile and a half on the right. It is the only rooftop restaurant on the island and the food is great and the views are amazing. Try to get there for sunset. The seafood and steak dishes are both excellent. (Make sure you call ahead – they sometimes close for private events)
Two miles south of town on the dirt road almost to Athen’s Gate is a cute little restaurant called Black Orchid. Their food is excellent also. The pizza and pasta dishes are excellent and you have to try the shrimp dip. Everything on the menu is good and so is the service.
Just a few more to try:
The best banana pancakes in the world are at Pelican Reef in their beach side cafe! It is farther down the dirt road south of town but a short walk if you stay at Athen’s Gate or Pelican Reef itself.
The Baker on main street in San Pedro is a great place for bread and pastries and smoothies (So good!) We ate there twice on this trip for breakfast because it was quick and good. They make a great egg sandwich on croissants or bread of your choice. (They don’t have a website, so no link but check their facebook page)
