A day in town

The next day it was supposed to snow in the morning, so we decided to wait and ski later. We got up and rode the bus down into town and ate at a restaurant called McGill’s. It is located in the old town general store.

The breakfast was excellent. We had eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. Continue reading “A day in town”

Second Day on the Mountain

The second day is normally a ski day.  The lifts open at 9:00 so you need to eat breakfast on the mountain. There are not a lot of choices for sit down breakfasts but there are quite a few places to grab a quick breakfast sandwich or pastries. For sit down breakfasts, we like the Woodstone Grille at The Grand Lodge. The Grand Lodge is located right at the base area also and is another great place for lodging close to the slopes. The Woodstone Grille has a really good breakfast buffet with biscuits and eggs and sausage and bacon. They also will cook  you an omelet or fried eggs. The buffet is rounded out with fresh fruit, bread choices for toasting and a large pot of excellent oatmeal with all the fixings. The best breakfast item in my opinion is the waffle. They are the lightest, fluffiest waffles I have ever had; it is almost like eating really sweet air.

Then we hit the slopes. We love this ski resort. The base area has four lifts.  Peachtree goes to green lifts and is great for beginners or to get a practice run in. West Wall is actually a little way down from the base area and is accessible from several other condos and lodges farther down the road. Red Lady goes up right from the base about halfway and has access to a lot of green and blue trails. Silver Queen goes all the way to the top, closest to Mount Crested Butte. Crested Butte

We love this little town. We have probably visited this town twenty times since our children were little. The town of Crested Butte, known as the “Gateway to the Elk Mountains” was actually founded in 1880 as a supply town for all of the miners in the area.  The town is small and quaint and historic.

It is located 28 miles north of Gunnison, Colorado and the airport in Gunnison is where we fly into to ski. The town of Mount Crested Butte is a couple of miles up the mountain from the town of Crested Butte. Continue reading “Crested Butte”

Gulf Shores Alabama – Small town Big beach

Gulf Shores, Alabama is a beautiful vacation destination on the Alabama coast.  We wanted to share some places that we like to eat and some other things for you to check out on a trip to the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach area. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are two cities on the same island. There are three bridges onto the island, one in Gulf shores on Gulf Shores parkway, one in Orange Beach with a toll bridge and one at the pass connecting the island to the Florida side. There is also a ferry at the west end of the island that goes from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island and Mobile. The beaches on the ocean side of the island are spectacular with wide spans of white sands and beautiful water.
